Ask me something
[original posting date- Monday, November 24th, 2008]
On Friday, the 21st of November, I was in Atlanta with a group of kids from my Art History class. We were visiting the High Museum, which is a huge collection of art things that is full of security and non-artsy people that work there.
But, getting to the point. We left to go get lunch, and I separated from the group to grab a cup of coffee. There were several coffee shops within walking distance, and for some reason I picked Starbucks. I never pick Starbucks. I think they are a giant corporation that is trying to monopolize the coffee world by charging outrageous amounts for coffee, and will soon attempt to take over the world. Ah, I have again sidetracked.
Anyway, on my way into Starbucks, this man stops me. He was a bit older, probably in his mid-late 20s. He asked me, “Hey man, you mind getting me something to eat? I’m really hungry.” I said, “Sure man, no problem. I was just about to go in Starbucks, want me to grab you something in there?” After a moment, he said, “Well, I think I’d like Chic-fil-A…” So I responded, “Oh OK. No problem. Let me grab some coffee, and then we’ll go get you something.” So I went in Starbucks, got a large latté, and went back outside to my new friend. “Hey dude, ready for something to eat?” I said. “Yeah,” he said with a smile. We went over to Chic-fil-A, and he said, “I think I want just a normal chicken sandwich,” he said. “I’ll go sit over there in the back.” “No problem man,” I said. I then proceeded to order a chicken sandwich combo for my friend. After I got it, I took it back to him, and said, “Here you go man.” He took it with a smile and said, “Thanks.” I had to go back to my Art History kids, so I left him with a “God bless you, bro” and we went different ways.
But about it bringing me full circle, today when I was back at school, I didn’t have quite enough to buy my normal latté. And I thought about my friend, who might not have had enough to even eat lunch, and I was pouting becuase I couldn’t get coffee. How selfish. I’m glad God led me to Starbucks that day.
By far, one of the coolest experiences of my life.
